I’m currently working as a freelance data analytics consultant based in the Bay Area, California. I’ve been working as a data analyst since 2013, mostly for early- to mid-stage startups across a variety of industries including e-commerce, logistics, and software-as-a-service (SaaS).

My experience includes:

• Establishing an analytics practice from scratch at multiple companies
• Implementing and managing data warehouses, including Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and Google BigQuery
• Implementing data ingestion pipelines, both via third party ETL tools and custom scripts
• Implementing and managing data transformation, particularly via dbt
• Designing effective business metrics and implementing business intelligence dashboards
• Collaborating with a variety of business functions, including product, engineering, sales, marketing, finance, customer support, customer success, and operations
• Providing ad-hoc data analysis to answer high-level business questions and provide strategic guidance
• Developing and implementing machine learning models to support business initiatives
• Hiring and managing data teams

My experience does not include:

• Front-end engineering, as you can probably tell from this website

I’ve found that implementing an efficient and effective analytics practice requires an understanding of the data stack from end-to-end, starting with data ingestion and ending with business interpretation. My philosophy is to work closely with business leaders to understand how data analytics can provide clarity and positive impact, then working backwards to implement the necessary data ingestion, transformation, and analysis to achieve these goals. This allows me to create a lean data practice that maximizes business impact while minimizing technical debt and the turnaround time on data-related requests.
